CLASS DEFINITION OF DISCRIMINATION (and other related definitions)

Discrimination occurs when you judge someone unfairly and cause an injustice because of your judgment.

An “unfair judgment” is one based on a stereotype, prejudice, or irrelevant characteristics.

An “injustice” is any kind of physical, emotional, or social harm that isn’t deserved.

 “Emotional or social harm” include:

      • Intimidation.
      • Being denied an opportunity you deserve/have earned.
      • Being excluded from an equal-opportunity situation.
      • Having your reputation damaged (defamation of character).
      • Name-calling.
      • Anything else resulting in ostracism/alienation or emotional distress.
