Dearest Penelope,
After more than ten
years of being away from you, it looks like now I might finally be able to
come home. The war is ending, and there are just a few things left to tie
up here. We Greeks do not intend to leave as sore losers. So I have
planned a gift that will appeal to the Trojans’ pride. With the good help
of Athena, we hope they will accept our gift so that we might finally put an
end to all this.
Keep your eyes toward
the seas.
Yours,
—Odysseus
