Preparing for your Oral Commentary

Step One:  KNOW THE TEXTS YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO KNOW!

For a list of key passages and texts covered during first semester, click here.
Step Two:  Review the steps for developing a commentary.

Step Three:  PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

Some morning when you're in the shower, on the CTA, sitting in division, etc.  take a moment to have a conversation with yourself about one of the passages or poems that might appear on your commentary.  If you want to practice doing a commentary more formally, make yourself sit down, grab one of the texts, take 20 minutes to read, think, and take notes, and then talk to yourself in a mirror for 15 mintues.

Step Four:  BREATHE.  A lot.  You're ready.
