Hamlet, Journal #1—Act 1, scene 1

• Using a note card, write a bookmark on the character of Horatio using a passage from 1.1.

OR

• Read/reread 1.1:80-123.  Horatio and the guards are discussing the political situation in Denmark and reasons for the ghost’s appearance.  According to what you read, what is the political situation?  Discuss this in a journal.  (Hint:  “Hamlet” in these lines refers to the former king who is now dead, not the young Hamlet we’ll be seeing later in the play.)
