MUSTAPHA MOND’S STORYLINE
part three
- In your small group, finish reading/skimming chapter
3 from page 47 to page 56. WITH PENCIL, mark all the sections
belonging to your group in your books.
- When you believe you’ve found all the sections
belonging to your group (you might have a couple questionable ones), call
over Ms. Spachman to check your work.
- Read all your sections together (starting from p.
34), in order, aloud so the whole group can follow the storyline.
- Once you’ve read your storyline all the way through,
create 2-3 questions for your storyline. These questions should not be
“right there” questions (questions you can find the answer for right in
the text; example: What’s the Controller’s name?) These questions should
be questions you have about what happens and/or what is said in your
storyline. Write these questions and number them in the space below.
- Then turn over this sheet and work on the questions
I’ve given you… *grin*.

him/her)
1.

his point.
3.
Mond spends a lot of time on page 36-43 talking about “home” and what
that experience was like, repeating the phrase “my baby, my baby,” and
more. These are included to have two distinct effects.
- First, what effect do you think Mond was trying to
have on the group of students he is talking to in the chapter? Justify
your answer.
- Second, since Huxley (the author) created Mond and
his speech here and knew that people like us would be the audience, what
effect do you think Huxley was trying to have on the readers? Justify
your answer.
4.
Go over to the computer and work together to do some research on
Freud. Who was he and when did he live? What does he have in common with
Henry Ford? What are the Oedipal Complex and the Electra Complex?
5. What does Freud have to do with what Mustapha is
talking about?
