5th and 7th Period--Moving from Outline to Paragraphs, 5/22

The good part about spending so much time on your outline is that if you have done it well, then writing the paragraphs for your argument will be a snap!  Look below at how I wrote my body paragraph from the outline we did together.  Each section of the outline is colored to match what I wrote in the paragraph.  See the similarities??

II.      Body Paragraph:  Proof of no “unfair judgment”

A. Transition and topic sentence:  First of all, illegal immigrants are in no way judged unfairly by Prop. 187.

B. Context about the judgment Prop. 187:  The law states that illegal immigrants are causing Californian’s economic harm.  They feel they are paying too much to provide illegals with things like education.

C. Evidence:  $4 billion cost (p. 6/note card 3)

D. Explain evidence!  (how does it prove there is no unfair judgment)  _________________________________

E.  Tie-back to your thesis:  Therefore, since Prop. 187 doesn’t judge illegals unfairly, there is no discrimination involved with this law.

First of all, illegal immigrants are in no way judged unfairly by Prop. 187.  The law states that illegal immigrants are causing Californian's economic harm.  They feel they are paying too much to provide illegals with things like education.  "In a study conducted in 1994, then-governor of California Pete Wilson discovered that the cost of illegals to California, in unemployment, medical, educational and other services, was more than $4 billion annually" (Hayes).  As this quote clearly states, illegal immigrants cost money,  A LOT of money to regular citizens.  That isn't fair to the citizens, so they are right to say illegals are bad to them.  That's like having a friend who mooches lunch money off you almost every day of the week!  Therefore, since Prop. 187 doesn't judge illegal immigrants unfairly, there is no discrimination involved with this law.
